Shopping in NC

Hello! I went to NC to help my sister decorate her new (to her) home.  This is the first home she has ever bought.  Her husband was in the Air Force and most of their time was spent in Okinawa, Japan.  In January he was sent to Korea for a year, after only one week he was found dead in his room. They have a 5 year old son and a 8 year old daughter. So what should of been a fun and happy occasion has been full of ups and downs for her.  I normally would not share such personal information, but just another reminder to thank our soldiers and always hug your loved ones tight and not take them for granted.

OK - now for some fun stuff. We did a lot of shopping!  Here are a few of the things I picked up.  Love the little wooden basket.

This is a close up of the wooden basket - love the curvy design along the sides. This was only $6!

And this is the way it looks today.

Filled with beautiful hydrangeas - just looking at them make me smile!

I love all the different shades of pink, violet and white.  These where picked from next door. The house is empty and for sale, so this year I have had an abundance of flowers. I have loved it!!

I also got this very large cloche - 18 inches high. I can't wait to play with this today. It was also a bargain at $10!  The prices in this area where so reasonable, next time I will bring the truck with me!

These shiny white fruits where also a steal at $4.50. They have already found a home on the bookcase on the side of the island.

This so cute bicycle planter was in my sisters front yard when she moved in, she did not like it so home it came with me. A trip to Home Depot is on the agenda today to find some pretty flowers to fill it's four baskets.  Thanks, Sis!!

That is just a few of the many things I picked up. My sister got some great deals also. Including a industrial cart coffee table and a beautiful hutch.  I will share these soon.

Thought I would share the hydrangeas  that came out of my yard.  My hydrangea bush is so large that right now it has over thirty blooms on it.

Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate the visit and the time you take to leave me a comment.

Last years Sales..

Hello Friends!  I just could not wait any longer!  No not  full blown Christmas Decorating, but it was time to let this new treasure out of the basement.  Last year for four weeks I looked at this so cute, fully, girly decorated tree.  I wanted it. Bad. But, it has pink and purple.  Not good when I am the only girl in the house, but it also had this...

Yes, that shows half price, and this was days before Christmas.  OK, so I was not that in love.  Here is a picture of the whole tree.

So cute and girly.

See told you it was cute!  Pink and purple...so not the colors I have used for Christmas before, but this year it will be in a corner of the kitchen.  Want to know what I paid?

Yes I saved $225 by waiting till after Christmas!  So what did you buy after Christmas that was a super bargin?

Using those thrifty finds

Hello!  You may remember me finding these fabulous iron candle sconces.  One was rusty, one not.  I ended up putting the not rusty one outside to let nature take its course.  After a month it was ready to find its place in my dinning room.  You can see here the sconces I replaced.

I added the teardrop crystals to give it a little glamour. I think it looks so pretty with the light casting showdows off the crystals.  Here is a close up.

Now a picture of  the other one.  Swoon...love, love them!  I normally do not go for a rusty look, so this is totally different then anything I have done in  my home.

Just another view.  I don't know why the chair rail looks so wonky. Maybe it is my lack of skill at picture taking.
I have at least six projects to work on right now.  The really bad thing is none would take over an hour to complete!  Off to work on a quick project!

Thrifty Finds

Hello everyone!  I can't wait to show you my most recent finds.  I stopped by GW, nothing there that inspired me.  I have not seen anything "good" there since I found my two soup tureens.  So I decided to head over to my favorite consignment shop,  Fun Finds.  And yes it was fun today. The first thing I found was a beautiful red and gold table runner.  I have been looking for a narrow one for my buffet.  This one is just perfect.   And only $8.00, no way could I buy the material, lining and fringe for that price.

Now for something a little more fun.  I am not sure where I am going to put it yet, but it was so pretty I just had to have it.  I think I am going  to paint it white and then decide how to highlight all the beautiful flowers. I am not sure what it is made of , but it is fairly heavy for it's size. It maybe some kind of plaster, not resin or plastic.  I only paid $12.50 - score!

Here's a close up of the flowers.

And my final, and favorite find is this beautiful plaster medilan.  It has such great detail and is so heavy.  I can not wait to paint it, this is going to be so fun to bring out all the wonderful texture and detail  - ok, I will show you.

It was hard to get a good picture of it, it is very bright white. Here are a few detail shots.

So for less then $50, I feel I got some great deals.  So what have you found lately?

Thrifty Finds

Hello everyone and welcome to a new week.  The Mister is out of town on business this week.  Boston, I sure wish I could of tagged along.  J is on Fall Break this week.  Yes, already six weeks of school under his belt.

I am going to share my thrifty finds for the week.  I lucked up and found two very cute soup tureens.  I have been looking for what seems likes years to find even one.

The one on the right has pretty handles and a design around the edge, with a stripe pattern all over.  So cute. The one on the left has the fruit pattern around it and an apple for the lid top - just perfect for this time of the year.  This is the one that got chipped up less then a block from home. Ugh...Coming to my house is a blind curve that immediately goes into a steep hill down.  When I got to the top of the hill to start down there was a fire truck backing up the hill!  I slammed on my breaks and the bag with the tureen went crashing to the floor.   I am alright except for shaking like a leaf!  The tureen got chipped at the very top by the lid.  That is the white stuff you see on my island - chip tureen!

At lease I can turn the chip to the back and you want even be able to tell.  Here is a close up of the cute apple shaped handle for the lid.  So sweet!

The tureens where only $4.74 each.  Score! I also found this new "old carpenters tool box" for only $1.74.  I am going to paint and distress  to give it some character.

I also want to show you my new flying pig.  I LOVE flying pigs.  They are just so fun.  Mr. Pig was not found at the thrift store, but for $15, I count him as a thrifty find. He was found at Kirklands.

He is heavy for his size, just like a pig should be. Yes, it was love at first sight!  I hope you enjoyed my finds for this week.  Did you find anything you have been on the hunt for?  Or did you find something you did not even know you needed until you saw it?  Make it an amazing day!

Thrifty Finds

Hope everyone is enjoying the Labor Day weekend.  Mine has been great so far. Finally got to see "The Help" yesterday, like everyone else - loved it.  We have a neighborhood cook out later this afternoon (rain please hold off).  The Mister and J  are doing yard work, so I thought I would share my finds for this week.

This cute little picture was half price, so only $2.00, I really liked the frame which is really why I got it.

Next was this pair of sconces (still with the plastic on them!).  I really liked the shape of them.  For $3.00 could not pass them up.  They will probably get a paint job and go to the master bedroom.  Both of these were sweet little finds from the local GW.  But, I was most excited about these...

A pair of wrought iron candle holders.  These things are heavy - 10-15 pounds each! One is heavily rusted, the other very little rust.  I found them at a fabulous consignment shop, Fun Finds.  The store was featured in Southern Livings February 2011 issue.  I am not affiliated with the shop or being paid to say nice things.  It just a nice, friendly place to shop or to consign items that I am ready to let go.

Pretty, huh?  I know most of ya'll would leave as is, but I might paint them. Here is the other one..

I did google how to make iron rust fast (vinegar & salt), so, I guess,  that means I am still not sure what I am going to do.  Must think on it awhile.  One last picture.  Love them!!

Thanks for stopping by....

Thrift store finds

Happy Saturday! I like to stop by my local Good Will at least once a week.  I don't always find anything I can use, but this week I got two lucky finds.  First up is this beautiful silver champagne bucket.   The tag is marked $6.49, but I got her half price - only $3.25! Score!! As you can see she has very little tarnish, but lots of finger print smudges, I was holding on tight!  I will probably save her for Christmas with some pretty reds ornaments or greenery.

My other lucky find was this Southern Living at Home plant holder. She was only $4.54, I don't know how much she was new, but I would guess around $30. Score again! I'm glad she came home  with me because she will look great on my front porch with some fall leaves or flowers in her.

The rest of the weekend plans are to try to finish painting the island and start packing the downstairs for the guys to lay the new floor.

I'm joining Kate at Flaunt it Friday.
