Updated Guest Room

Hello and thanks for stopping by after my long disappearance. Life has been full & crazy - and will be for at least another month, but I finally managed to finish updating the guest room - a few minutes here and there. Hope you enjoy the tour and would love to hear what you think. I posted this Guest Room back in November telling you I had plans to update. Here is a picture to show the "before".

Lots of red, gold and  a big Asian theme going on - so ready for a change - so here is the after.

I changed the 4 poster bed to J's old bed, which was a yellow pine. I painted, glazed and lightly distressed it. The curtains are being blown from a nice breeze.  I love the way the finsh turned out!

Here's a close up of the finish in all its aged, chippy make me smile finish!

I removed the door on the nightstand and gave it the same finish as the bed.  I picked up the lamp and bird frame at Kirklands. Also on the table is a piece of drift wood J found when he was around 4 years old.

The picture of my Mom is from 4 years ago, she had it taken on her 70th birthday!

Across from the bed, between the door leading in and the  bathroom door, I put this cute little slipper chair (Kirkland) and a decorator table.  Above it my "free" sunburst mirror (you can read about it here) and for the items on the table I shopped my house.

Next is the chest of drawers with the same paint treatment.  I picked up the pulls at HL at 50% off.  I see I forget to cut the tag off the curtain. Ugh!!

On one side I have this little dress form (also Kirkland's!) a mosaic jar, faux greenery and picture of my parents with my  aunt and uncle.  My Dad is the one in the back, and he and my uncle where twins.  Pretty rare for 1938.

On the other side is a picture of my parents in Las Vegas in the 70's. Funny story - this was their first trip to Vegas, my Mom, always practical , thought there might be a shortage of change in Vegas, so she took hundreds of dollars of pennies and nickles with her!  The cloche was a Christmas gift, inside I placed J's Easter picture when he was two and the Mister's baby shoes from 1966! Amazing to see how small his now size 12's where.

On the other side of the bed I moved this plant stand from the master bedroom and wrapped this plant in burlap to help fill the corner.  The sconces where a GW find last summer and the picture was from Kirkland.  Kirkland was a big help in this room make over!!!

Here is looking from the window towards the far wall.  Yes, more Kirkland pictures!
Sorry for the picture over load, but I really love how the room turned out.  The only thing left to do is hang the new fan.  I would of preferred a beautiful chandy, but this room is on the front and gets the hot Georgia sun all day - and I would not want to roast my guest!!  I hope you enjoyed the tour, I would love to hear your comments.  Thanks so much for stopping by to see me!!

Sun burst mirror

I have been trying to post since Sunday. This new blogger interface was doing some weird things and still will not let me go to the old interface. Why, oh why do they have to change things?!

Anywho, I had signed up for several different "deal of the day" sights. I have always loved sun burst mirrors so when came up that I liked I ordered. Well when it came one of the rays was broken. The company sent me another, which was also damaged. So now I have two damaged mirrors at no cost.

So I decided to try painting it to cover up the damaged. I used some left over paint from the guest room.

I really liked the way it turned out. I like the way it gave it a less intense look. Here is a look at one painted and one not.

Super easy and fast project. This will be going over the bed in the guest room. I finally finished painting the head board for the guest room. I am getting so excited - I am almost ready to start putting the room together.

Guest Room

Hello all.  I thought I would share one of my guest rooms.  When we moved in I let my Mom design it as I expected her to visit more often.  After six years I am ready for a change.  For the last month or so I have been gathering things to give it an updated look.  I hope to have it completed in the next couple of weeks.  In the mean time, here is how it looks now.

This good is good size, about 15 X 13 with the bathroom in the room,  it has some interesting angles, as you can here.  This is looking in from the hallway.  Full morning sun streaming in.

The hardest part about redoing this room is the bedding.  I love four poster beds, but the mattress sits so high that bed skirts have to be made custom for it.  The skirt on this bed has to have a 22" drop, standard is 15".  This bedding my Mom picked out from JCP, then she altered the skirt.  Once again I  regret not letting her teach me to sew.  She is 75 now, and probably would alter another for me,  but I know it would be a hardship for her.

Next to the bed is this little glass top table.  I love the bling lamp, it is so cute.  I found the fan and kimono at Cost Plus, along with the large fan over the bed.

On the wall across from the bed and next to the bathroom I have the dresser.  On top is a Asia doll/figure that my Mom found. In a old humidor  I arranged some poppy's and artichokes, I thought it had a Asian feel.

The above picture is looking straight into the bathroom.  I really love the shower curtain with all the beading. It also was found at JCP.  On the back of the toilet I have a candle wrapped in bamboo stalks.

On the wall across from the tolet, I have these little plaques with Chinesse symbols for love, happines, harmony and family.  Underneath is the towel rack, love the fringe on these towels.

On the side of the room with the toilet is the vanity.

Here are a couple more shots showing some of the art work.

These two prints I found for a dollar each at Walmart, then picked up the frames for $2 each - very thrify and still fits the theme.

Since starting this blog I have learned you need to take a picture to see how something really looks.  Looking over this post the room seems kinda empty, which looking at it in real life it does not.

Well I hope you enjoyed the tour of our main guest room. I love all your comments, thanks for taking the time to leave them.
